Your heating and cooling system is one of the most important appliances in your home. Keeping it functioning well means the difference between comfort and discomfort and affects your energy usage. Maintenance contracts play a big role in keeping your HVAC system working well.

Keeping the System Clean

HVAC systems collect dust just like anything else inside or outside the home. This can find its way inside the air conditioner or furnace and build up. After a while, it will interfere with normal function and lead to issues such as overheating motors or frozen evaporator coils. Dirty heating and cooling systems also contribute to poorer air quality in the home.

Unlike the filter, which you should change about once a month during the peak months, many HVAC components are not convenient for homeowners to access and clean. One job the technician performs during preventive maintenance visits is checking the parts and cleaning coils, drain pans and more.

Keeping it Maintained

Most maintenance contracts cover basic tasks such as applying lubricant to moving parts and ensuring everything is functioning as it is supposed to. Usually performed in spring and fall, preventive maintenance gets your system ready for the new heating or cooling season. This keeps it running both smoothly and efficiently. Your HVAC system will operate as it is intended to and be prone to fewer breakdowns.

Handling Minor Repairs Before they Become Big Problems

HVAC maintenance agreements can save you the extra expense and stress of system failures or property damage from leaks. Clogged drain lines, for example, can lead to flooding around an indoor unit. Frozen evaporator coils can lead to the compressor failing. A contractor will take care of these repairs during scheduled visits and prevent small issues from becoming bigger ones.
